Evaluation underway, Telekom Malaysia (TM) might make its next move soon

Kuala Lumpur, 12th March 2024: CIMB Investment Bank has disclosed Telekom Malaysia’s inclination towards establishing a new hyperscale data center in Malaysia. While the service provider is exploring plans for catering to large cloud service providers and internet companies, it’s estimated that the potential facility will power at least 40 Megawatts (MW) of IT power capacity.

The above move is said to expand Telekom Malaysia’s capacity from the existing Klang Valley Data Centre (KVDC) and Iskandar Puteri Data Centre (IPDC). In the wake of TM’s extensive submarine and terrestrial networks alongside robust local connections, CIMB predicts that the organisation will be able to entice influential global partners to co-invest in the hyperscale data center.

CIMB, also popular as the region’s premier corporate advisor, has gone to the extent of speculating that the above-mentioned potential partners could be the key in getting tenants for the upcoming hyperscale facility by introducing expansion space to their existing data center tenants.

Earlier the bank had also commented on the probable hyperscale data center while anticipating its phase wise development, it stated, “If kicked off in 2H2024, the first phase could be ready for service by 1H2026.”
